WORKSHOP TITLE: Healing with Language presented by Shonda Buchanan, English professor at Hampton University.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Many use language to communicate in various ways at every moment in their lives, but most, unless you are a writer, fail to see how language gives one the ability to address mysterious moments, traumatic events or issues of the past. In this reflective creative writing workshop, we will explore the concept of how language can be used to unearth, address and heal from those moments. After studying poems from writers such as Sharon Olds, Li-Young Lee and A. Van Jordan, we will write our own poems that reflect an episode, a person or secret left behind.
This writing workshop is for both budding and experienced writers, as well as those who have no writing experience. I will work with all writers from "where you are" to explore your thoughts and ideas through writing, and in your poems.
