Writing Prompt for September 13, 2008


Strong Reaction

Write a story of fewer than 1,001 words, involving a strong reaction to something routine. I have allergies in mind, but the dynamic (violent rejection of what, in most situations, wouldn't be rejected at all) plays out a million ways.

For a challenge, include the following elements:

  • a habitual cry of grief


  • an artifact from an earlier time


  • a flash of hope, immediately dashed


  • an intrusion


  • a GPS locator
