FLASH FICTION

Use the following line as inspiration for a fully plotted FLASH of 500 words or less. Leave out every superflous description and character movement that isn't vital to the plot. As unappealing as this may be to you poets and novelist, do it anyway since flash requires the tightest of tight writing. If you can't come up with an entire story of 500 words or less, create a less-completely-plotted vignette of at least 200 words.

"You aint gonna believe what just happened to me," she (he) said.

What do you suppose happened to this person?

  • Was he just mugged--or worse?

  • Did she just discover she's pregnant, sick, a lottery winner, _________ (fill in the blank)?

  • Did he just escape from a horrible accident without a scratch?

  • Did someone turn a corner and walk right into the ugliest alien in the universe, a bank robbery, a _________ (fill in the blank)?

  • Did Charlie get a job modeling underwear?

  • Did Susan just discover how to turn base metals into gold?
