Traveling Pen Workshop-- June 22, at the Virginia Beach campus of Tidewater Community College, Blackwater Bldg, RM CW-134. 9:30 AM - Noon; check-in at 9:15. Workshop, entitled Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy, facilitated by Dr. Dennis Bounds. $10 HRW members, $20 Nonmembers.
This interactive workshop will present and drive home the various patterns for contemporary science fiction and fantasy plots. During the workshop each student will learn the important differences between fantasy and science fiction. Each student will then be encouraged to start on a new story or continue work on a work in progress by applying useful narrative and character tools and formulas to solidify their stories as either fantasy or science fiction. Passages from important novels and short stories, as well as clips from key films and television, will be used for illustration and handouts will be provided.
