Hampton Roads Writers
Eavesdrop on a conversation. Note the slang, profanity (if used), and any unusual phrases or dialect. Record your observations in a dialogue journal. Alongside the collected words and phrases, jot down the emotions the speakers were expressing through their words.
Do this everyday for a week to practice hearing and creating individual patterns of speech.
