Dr. Dennis Bounds

Dr. Dennis Bounds spent his first eighteen years in Louisiana, his second eighteen in Texas, and as of 2011 has completed his third eighteen in Virginia. He earned his BA in Communications at Baylor University, his MA in Screenwriting and PhD in Critical-Cultural Studies of Cinema-TV at the University of Texas at Austin.
Bounds has worked as a videographer, cinematographer, reporter, producer, and director at two television stations in Texas. At his current post at Regent University, Bounds helped establish and currently directs the Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting. Bounds teaches in the areas of cinema and TV writing, history, theory, and criticism.
He has published articles and book chapters on the subjects of film, television, and popular culture. Bounds has published entries on “Perry Mason,” “Raymond Burr,” and “Columbo” in The Encyclopedia of Television, (Vols. I & II, Fitzroy Dearborn Press). Bounds’ non-fiction book, Perry Mason: The Authorship and Reproduction of a Popular Hero, (Greenwood Press), serves as a key text on the character “Perry Mason” in literature, broadcasting, and film and is owned by libraries and collectors around the world.
Bounds has presented his workshop “Everything You Need to Write a Screenplay” at film festivals and conferences around the country -- as well as through the HRW Traveling Pen Series.
He is currently shopping a Sci-Fi Thriller to agents and publishers.
Bounds lives in Chesapeake, VA, with his wife, Margaret.
